Trip to Corisco – “Magane Say”

Corisco Beach

Introduction

Corisco or Mandyi is an idyllic island located at the mouth of the Muni River in the mainland region of Equatorial Guinea. It is one of the most paradisiacal and beautiful places in the country. And as with all valuable things, logistics can be difficult and full of challenges..

Day 1:

Early morning departure from Bata to head towards Corisco. We will pass through the famous Mbini bridge until we reach Cape San Juan and from there, we will take a motorized boat with a local captain with extensive experience on the route to reach Corisco in a journey that will last approximately two hours. Once on the island, we will settle in the Magane Say area and the adventure will begin. We will visit the newly built Corisco Church and the ruins of the old church built by colonizers over 200 years ago. We will pay our respects and learn about the history of the last Benga King, Santiago Uganda (1906-1960), by visiting his tomb. In addition, we will delve into the local structures to talk to the people and learn about their customs.

Day 2:

On this day, we will visit the famous Joko Beach, a very popular and recognizable place on the island for its long beaches that, when merged, form a tongue of land that makes you feel like the king of the sea. You can practice diving and observe the different species of rays and other fish that will come close to you in these crystal-clear waters. After the beach, we will be at your disposal to take you to more places or carry out the activities you wish, adapting to your tastes: rest, meditate, dive, walk, fish, and anything else you can think of. In line with the vision of Rumbo Malabo, we will always take you with local people to contribute to the improvement of the island’s economy. You will have the opportunity to directly help the locals by purchasing bracelets, pendants, and other 100% natural jewelry items. And if that’s not enough, you can voluntarily contribute to our program of distributing school supplies to provide books to the Corisco cultural center.

We will be at your disposal to visit the islands of Elobey Grande and Elobey Chico depending on the weather, and with a bit of luck, you can observe the dolphins and whales that roam the area. In the afternoon, we can visit the community of Iyanga and meet the inhabitants of the area. We will learn about their traditions, customs, and way of life. We can visit a typical house and get to know the local architecture and craftsmanship up close.

At night, we will enjoy a dinner on the beach, with traditional music and dance from the region. You will have the opportunity to try the local cuisine and meet the locals in a relaxed and festive atmosphere.

Day 3:

The next day, after breakfast, we will take the boat back to Bata, with the possibility of stopping at Cape San Juan’s beaches and enjoying one last swim in these crystal-clear waters before returning to the city.

Depending on the schedule, we may stop at Hendje, a town located on the coast with paradisiacal beaches and a magnificent place to have a snack.

This three-day tour will allow you to get to know the island of Corisco in-depth and enjoy its beaches, culture, and people in an authentic and responsible way. All accommodations, meals, and transfers are included in the tour price, as well as the assistance of local guides who will accompany you at all times to guarantee an unforgettable experience.
