Weekend in Annobon

Introduction

Annobón Island located in the Atlantic Ocean, by the Gulf of Guinea south of São Tomé and Príncipe. The name derives from Ano Bom meaning in Portuguese New Year.   Several islets surround the island and its volcanic origin.   It has a crater turned into a lagoon (Mazafin Lake) and a climate that oscillates between 20 and 30 ºC during its two seasons; The rainy season, from October to April, and the dry season, from May to July; Along with a transition season called Sasá, during the remaining months.

The population the  Annobón island live mostly in San Antonio de Palé, a  10-minute drive from the national airport.

There are two alternatives to travel to Annobón: the first via aeroplane,    on Fridays and Sundays with a duration of 1h and 40 min. Your second option is via Barco; the journey time is three days, we don’t recommend this method, yet it is an option.

The city is small. We don’t advise renting a car; your stay would be more enjoyable, walking around to visit the most typical locations on the island. Locals are friendly people always willing to help.

In Annobón, all roads lead to the beach. You can get there on our own. If ever in doubt, ask any local for guidance.

The farthest beach in Annobon is Isla Tortuga. A perfect place to snap more beautiful pictures to be shared with friends and family. If you are a good swimmer, we dare you to dip and swim towards the island. Tell us how many minutes it takes you to swim there? We will share the results on our social media platform.

During our day trip, we will visit the southern part of Annobón there will find the Mazafim lagoon and waterfalls. If you have enough energy before we leave, you can experience a small sheltered bay of love, situated near the national airport.

Depending on your spirit of adventure, we can provide you with a local guide, or you can use our adventure map. But rest assured, regardless of the path you chose to take, you will have an excellent time.

On the road back from the airport, before city end and just before crossing the underpass, we can find a small path to the sea, we will make a quick stop there, it has stairs that make it quite accessible.

Then you will be ready to go home with a beautiful experience.

What an amazing experience at the Reserva Científica, Bioko island. Love, love, love. Thanks to Rumbo Malabo, and its friendly guides, we got to respectfully experience sea turtles digging holes to lay their eggs in. We visited amazing waterfalls and got to spend lovely and enriching moments at the dinner table with Jana Lopez… thank you, thank you, thank you! I will absolutely repeat this experience! Next time I will bring an inflatable mattress along though… 😉

Rumbo Malabo is an EXCELLENT local tourist agency with tonnes of expertise about Equatorial Guinea! They organised an UNFORGETTABLE trip for a group of us to visit the sacred Ureka Falls in late December 2022 and we loved every minute of it! We stayed the night in a lovely eco-friendly wooden campsite, so we could see the marine turtles come on shore to lay their eggs, and that was simply MAGICAL! My 7 yearold son keeps remembering this BEAUTIFUL experience, which was certainly the highlight of his trip! The Rumbo Malabo team took care of everything, including food and water and arranging the required tourist permits for Ureka, and all we had to do was relax and enjoy! I’d highly recommend Rumbo Malabo to anyone who wants to visit Equatorial Guinea and see the best the country has to offer with ease and comfort!
